History

In 1953, the Cleveland Browns were 8-4 under Head Coach Paul Brown and their top draft choice was Bert Rechichar. The Cleveland Indians, with Manager Al Lopez, won 93 games finishing two games behind first place and Luke Easter was The Sporting News Player of the Year for American League. And, the Cleveland Arena was the site of the Moondog Coronation Ball, considered the first ever rock and roll concert, and was organized by Cleveland disc jockey Alan Freed. But the most significant event of 1952, in the Cleveland area, was the beginning of Sima Marine founded by Jim and Eleanor Sima.

Jim had a vision for the kind of business he wanted Sima Marine to be and he created the slogan “The House of Sincere Service.” Originally located in Maple Heights, Ohio, the business has expanded through the years with the addition of a full service marina, sales office and service facility in Eastlake and a sales office in Catawba. Today, Jim and Eleanor’s son John runs the company and daughter Barb is the CFO.

John started at the age of 12 helping out in the business and became the youngest Mercury Outboard Certified Mechanic at the age of 16. John has held the positions of Sales Manager, Service Manager, and Store Manager leading to his present position of Owner and President of Sima Marine, Inc. and he continues the tradition of exceeding our customer’s expectations. Barb is a Certified Public Accountant and before joining Sima Marine was President and Chief Financial Officer for a $30 Million sportswear marketing company. She has also held position of Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer/Secretary for a software development company.

Sima Marine is the exclusive dealer for Carver Yachts, Cruiser Yachts, Marquis Yachts, Key West Boats, and Zodiac for the Northern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania area. John is credited with expanding the business with the addition of a 20-acre marina facility in Eastlake, Ohio on the Chagrin River with convenient access to Lake Erie. The full service marina provides dockage, storage, and services as well as hull and propulsion services.
